Women’s Hospital Redevelopment

The brand new $230 million Women’s Hospital is a 388,000 sq. ft. facility that is Manitoba’s largest capital health project ever undertaken. This extensive centre for women’s care features 173 beds and a 60-bed neonatal intensive care unit. Midwest Engineering worked closely with the engineering team to meet strict requirements for cleanliness and indoor air quality. Challenges of the project included the design of specialized air handling systems that deliver high outdoor air quantities and high efficiency filtration all while being energy and space conscious. Fully custom Haakon air handlers included energy recovery wheels and HEPA filtration to meet strict health care code requirements. Midwest Engineering supplied almost all of the mechanical, ventilation and hydronic equipment on the project.
